A Doula? Mothering the Mother...

I believe that every woman should have a Doula!
Not because I am a Doula, but because I had a Doula myself.

This may be your first pregnancy, or you are already a mother and are looking for a loving, personal, memorable experience with your next baby. One where you feel empowered throughout your pregnancy, birth and beyond. Pregnancy is an amazing journey and the birth of your baby is a precious and unique moment in your life, which you remember forever. Doula and Childbirth Educator Penny Simkin discovered that women vividly remember their birthing experience twenty years later and that the way women feel about childbirth is based on how they were cared for during labour: "It had nothing to do with easy or hard births, natural or not. Women who felt respected and nurtured were the ones who felt good about the birth."

My name is Kris Pedder and I founded Beautiful Bellies Doula Care because I believe that every woman deserves to be supported and guided on this journey by a caring hand. The love, care and respect you receive, the opportunity to discover your own strength, and the fact that you are the central figure, making decisions, with the help and support of your caregivers, will create a positive birth experience.

I have experienced with my own babies how, between medical care on the one hand, and the support provided by family and friends, there can be a huge gap when it comes to support in labour- and this process begins in pregnancy and continues after birth-. Not many women are fortunate enough to get consistent, continuous support from birth professionals and quite often women are not given the confidence to have the birth experience that they deserve.

I trust birth. But more than that, I trust a woman's way of knowing what she needs or what her baby needs in order to have a safe passage. I have the privilege of doing something I love and I feel honoured to support mothers, their partners and their families during this special and intimate period of their lives. I feel humbled by the love, courage and strength of every birthing woman I meet and I am grateful for what they have to teach me about the miracle of birth and about life.

I am continually upgrading my training and I will be attending Ina May Gaskin's The Farm, Midwifery Centre in Summer 2014 for Midwife Assistant Certification.
